Teeny Tiny Mini Library Give-Away

This is my new library in a matchbox. As the name suggests, the painted purple box is a matchbox. – And I am rather proud of the individual books:

Oben seht ihr meine neue Bibliothek in der Streichholzschachtel. Wie der Name ahnen lässt, handelt es sich bei der violetten Schachtel um eine mit meinem Kleisterpapier bezogene Streichholzschachtel. Hier kommen Bilder der  einzelnen Büchlein:

The book above is Coptic bound, and even has teeny tiny Coptic headbands. (Some of you might have seen this one before, it is the one that is not from last week.) It had endbands on both the head and the tail, but that seemed like an overkill on the tiny book, so I removed one of them again. Below you see a picture while I was stitching it.

Das Buch oben ist Koptisch gebunden, und hat sogar Koptische Kapitalbänder bekommen. Ursprünglich hatte es zwei davon, das schien mir dann aber doch zu wuchtig für so ein kleines Büchlein. Unten ein Photo während des Entstehens:

Der Titel dieses Büchleins ist (in chinesischen Schriftzeichen) “Buch” oder “Bücher”, und auf den Seiten steht: “Ein Buch, zwei Bücher, drei Bücher, …” Insgesamt hat es 18 Seiten, gebunden in asiatischer Blockheftung.

The Title of the above book is “book” or “books”, written in Chinese symbols. On the pages you can read: “one book, two books, three books,…” It has 18 pages, and is bound in an Asian stab stitch.

A medieval longstitch binding. It has 80 pages, and with with a page format of approximately 1cm x 1cm, it is the smallest of the contained books.

Das Buch oben ist mittelalterlich im Langstich gebunden. Es hat 80 Seiten zum selbst beschreiben im Format etwa 1cm x 1cm

This one is bound similarly, but has hard boards or covers, covered in cloth and leather.

Das Buch oben ist ähnlich gebunden, hat aber feste Deckel, eingebunden in Leder und Buchleinen.

And this here is the masterpiece of the collection, I think. It is bound completely in black lambskin, and has 16 pages from a handmade rag paper. It closes by wrapping around a string of braided cotton thread,tugged under itself, and is finished with a glass bead. Paste downs on the inside covers are pieces of my own paste paper. The pages are filled with an ancient German love poem.

Das hier ist das Glanzstück auf dem Bücherregal: Es ist ganz in Lammleder gebunden und hat 16 Seiten aus Hadernpapier. Die Spiegel auf den Innenseiten der Deckel sind aus meinem Kleisterpapier. Das Buch hat einen Verschluss aus geflochtenem Baumwollgarn mit einer Glasperle am Ende.

On the pages you can read:

Auf den Seiten seht geschrieben:

Du bist mîn, ich bin dîn,

des solst du gewis sin.

Du bist beslozzen in mein herzen,

verlorn is daz sluzzelîn.

du muost ouch immêr dainne sîn.

It is a famous old German verse from the 12th century. Translated to modern English, not trying to immitate the rhyme or rhythm of the original:

“You are mine, and I am yours,

this, you should be sure of.

You are locked in my heart,

and the key is lost,

so, forever,  you have to stay there.”

Wahrscheinlich sind ist dieses hübsche Gedicht bekannt. Es stammt aus dem 12. Jahrhundert, und ein Autor ist nicht überliefert. In modernem Deutsch heißt es in etwa (ich versuche nicht, den Reim zu immitieren):

Du bist mein, ich bin dein,

dessen sollst du dir gewiss sein.

Du bist eingeschlossen in meinem Herzen,

der Schlüssel ist verloren

– so musst du für immer darinnen bleiben.

The above is a jotter journal with 20 pages in brilliant colors.

Dieses Heft mit 20 Seiten in leuchtenden Farben ist ebenfalls im Regal und in der Streichholzschachtel enthalten.

And finally there is this book with a leather spine, and hard covers in Leipzig patterned paper. It, too, has 20 blank pages, and is bound with a pamphlet stitch.

Und zum Schluss ist da noch dieses Büchlein, das zwar feste Deckel hat, aber wie ein einfaches Heft gebunden ist. Die Deckel sind mit Leipziger Vorsatzpapier bezogen, der Rücken mit Leder.
