Sailing is a paper mache sculpture. It shows a human figure with a bird mask, sitting in a spherical nest, anchored precariously between barren branches, onto which pieces of a document with the royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom hand like tattered sails.
If you look very carefully, you might be able to make out that the document that is hanging in shreds there, is the head of the European Communities Act 1972, with which the UK became a member of what was then the EC.

Materials and Techniques

Paper mache for the nest, paper dough for the branches, and paper clay and polymer clay for the human figure.
