Feverishly

The opening celebration of my exhibit will be next Thursday. The last weeks have been crazy: Few sleep, much work, and a brain buzzing with new ideas. I really should be doing other stuff now, organize this and worry about that, prepare a mini performance actually. And instead I am folding paper. Well, if I had always taken the rational choice I would be celebrating a peaceful Sunday today and go back to work at an insurance company on Monday. Here’s the result of a Sunday morning trial:

Die Vernissage meiner Ausstellung ist nächsten Donnerstag, und die letzte(n) Wochen waren anstrengend: Wenig Schlaf, viel Arbeit, Aufregung und Vorfreude, und merkwürdigerweise löst das in meinem Kopf einen Sturm neuer Ideen aus. Ich muss gleich dringend noch einiges organisieren, aber das habe ich schon gestern den ganzen Tag gemacht, und heute morgen musste ich einfach ein bisschen basteln. Hier das Ergebnis des heutigen Morgens:

Ich habe für ein anderes Buch, das ich für die Ausstellung noch fertig gemacht habe, mit Hedi Kyles Crownbook-Struktur gearbeitet. Sie hat mich an die Hexentreppen erinnert, die ich als Schülerin gerne gemacht habe.

I have been working on Hedi Kyle’s crownbook last week, and it reminded me of a little something I enjoyed to make during boring lessons as a kid in school. We called it “Hexentreppe”, witch’s stairs. You begin with two ordinary concertinas:

Then weave them together:

Zwei normale Akkordionstreifen werden in einandergeflochten:

closed it looks like just two closed concertinas, but opened up it twists pleasantly:

You can stick cardboard into those compartments in different angles, and depending how you open the stairs they will arrange themselves differently:

Die die Öffnungen kann man dann was reinkleben oder stecken. Je nachdem, welchen Winkel man wählt, bewegen sie sich sehr schön, wenn man die Treppe auf- und zumacht.

Well, these are only trials and observations so far. Will have to think some more about how to use it. Now I really got to get some work done… I hopefully will see a lot of you on Thursday and the rest who cannot come can look forward to hopefully nice pictures from the show some time later.

Nun muss ich aber wirklich die Spielerei lassen und mich and die Arbeit machen. Ich hoffe, ich sehe möglichst viele von euch am Donnerstag. Alle anderen können sich auf hoffentlich schöne Bilder irgendwann übernächste Woche freuen.
