“Die Stadt” / “The City” was: Die Suche

As expected I did not manage to make the edition until today. There is still a lot of work to do in fact. But quite a couple of things work fine, too: The files for printing the text and the pop-up work fine. I just have to print it all, cut, and put it all together. A concept for a cover technique is finished, too. I think I had quite an interesting idea there, because it works without any glue. Well, without much glue: I glue spine and cover stiffeners to the book cloth which is then just cut and folded  to hold the book. This was necessary because thick covers looked too clumsy on the tiny book.

The text is not just layouted to print, it is of course ready as such. I decided to make it a bilingual book, featuring the text both in German and in English. The title changed from “The Search” to “The City”. What still needs to be done is a more elaborate Cover design and box design. I won’t have time to do it next week (therefore I hoped to finish by now). I hope I’ll be able to present the finished pieces soon!

And then I plan to finally deliver what I still owe you: The backstory and what this book is about and a link list for tunnel books. (The latter is stored on a harddrive of an older computer and this is why I have not yet posted it. I do plan to revive it to retrieve the links… we’ll see.)

Wie schon befürchtet, bin ich nicht bis heute mit der Edition fertig geworden. Es gibt sogar noch eine ganze Menge zu tun. Aber eine ganze Reihe Details sind auch fertig geworden: Die Dateien, die den Text und das Pop-Up enthalten sind fertig, und ich muss sie nur entsprechend häufig ausdrucken, ausschneiden, zusammensetzen und dann habe ich erstmal meine ferigen Bücher. Das grundsätzliche Konzept für den Einband habe ich ebenfalls fertig. Ich bilde mir ein, sogar ein ganz interessanted Konzept, weil es ohne Klebtoff auskommt. Naja, fast ohne Klebstoff. Ich klebe noch Verstärkungen für den Rücken und die Deckel auf das Buchleinen, aber das wird dann nur zugeschnitten und um den Buchblock gefaltet. Eine solche Lösung erschien notwendig, da echte Deckel aus Deckelpappe etwas zu klobig bei dem kleinen Büchlein wirkten.

Der Text selbst ist nicht nur fertig gelayoutet, er ist natürlich auch an sich fertiggestellt. Ich habe mich entschieden, das Büchlein zweisprachig auf Deutsch und Englisch zu halten. Der Titel hat sich nochmal von “Die Suche” auf “Die Stadt” verändert und hier und da habe ich ein bisschen an den Worten gefeilt.

Was noch getan werden muss ist ein etwas konkreteres Coverdesign im Sinne von: Wie steht wo der Titel usw. und das zugehörige Boxendesign. Nächste Woche werde ich nicht zum Arbeiten kommen (deshalb wäre ich ja gerne heute schon fertig gewesen), aber ich hoffe, dass ich mich trotzdem bald mit Bildern von den fertigen Büchlein hier melden kann.
