When people ask me what I do, I usually answer “too much”: My main ambition is making meaningful book art which for me means that the overall concept of content and presentation form a complete whole. Making my books involves hand bookbinding, boxmaking, writing, printing and graphic work. I also make blank books and make prints and write stories on their own, without the whole concept of an artist book. This is quicker, and at times I have to be quick to put my ideas out there into the world. If I don’t my ideas give me this sort of itch on the inside of my head, — and it is really hard to scratch there.
Additionally I also teach bookbinding techniques in small workshops in my studio. And because attending a workshop in person is not a feasible option for many, I also write bookbinding instructions and make bookbinding kits for a variety of skill levels and have a video channel on skillshare.
I am also selling (coloured) linen thread, suitable for bookbinding and other traditional crafts like harness making and more general leather working. Coloured linen thread was surprisingly hard to find in Europe when I started out as an artisan bookbinder. It is desirable for the exposed bindings where the sewing thread becomes part of the design. And thus I founded the shop I would have liked to find, especially in those first years.
On this website I try to make it possible for everyone to find more information about whatever of my many endeavours they are interested in. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
